The primary focus of the WPI Automation and Interventional Medicine Robotics Research Laboratory is the design and development of enabling technologies for medical robotics and robot-assisted surgery.


The Director for this Laboratory is:
Prof. Gregory Fischer


Some of our key research areas are:

  • Medical robotics and Image-guided surgery
  • Robot-assisted prostate cancer therapy and stereotactic neurosurgery
  • MRI compatible mechatronics (sensors, actuators and control systems)
  • Haptics and telesurgery
  • Human-robot interaction
